Relative Energy Deficiency in Sports/Dance was previously called "Female Athlete Triad" characterized by low body weight, loss of menstruation, and poor bone density, caused by insufficient nutrition leading to low energy availability. Which is to say, the nutritional intake is insufficient to cover the energy demands of both athletic training and daily bodily processes. Low energy availability can arise unintentionally with increased training loads not matched by increased nutrition intake.
